Zaffer Ahmed Sharif, 65, passed away unexpectedly at his home on May 25, 2016. He was given peace from his mental and physical suffering.
Zaffer was born in Hyderabad, Pakistan on February 21, 1951 to Muhammed and Sakina Sharif. He came to the U.S. when he was 19 years old and later received his U.S. Citizenship. While attending the University of Wyoming, Zaffer met his future wife Laura.
Zaffer received his BS degree in Marketing and Human Resource Management. He later received his Master’s in Business Management and in Counseling Psychology. He eventually earned his LPC license and Addictions Specialist License.
In Cheyenne, Zaffer worked for the Meadowlark House for unwed mothers, as a program supervisor from 1985-1986. He worked at the Attention Homes for Youth when he was a youth counselor from 1983-1990. Zaffer was a case manager/social worker from 1990-1996. He became assistant director at the Attention Homes from 1996-1998. Zaffer joined the Casey Family Program in 1998-1999 and became their Cheyenne Division Case Manager. Zaffer provided counseling services before working for the Wyo. Dept. of Family Services from 2005-2012. He held the positions of casework manager/specialist, social service program manager and social service program analyst. Zaffers last position was working as a LPC for Juvenile Extensive Management Services from 2013-2015.
Zaffer provided mental health services for youth, adult and family for twenty-five years and was very passionate about his work, impacting many lives. He was a world travelor, avid reader, Broncos fan and lover of Dolphins. Zaffer was a practicing Buddhist. One of his favorite traveling destinations was visiting the Buddhist temple in Japan.
Zaffer will be lovingly remembered for his brilliant mind, the great and deep love that he had for his children and family, for always being kind and humble and knowing that there is great goodness in everyone.
Survivors include his wife, Laura, children, Adam and Sarah , all of Cheyenne; mother and father-in-law, Eric and Elfriede Decker of Cheyenne; sisters, Shagufta Sharif, Shahista Sharif, brother, Mustag Sharif, all of Pakistan, brother, Iftekha Sharif of Utah and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Zaffer was preceded in death by his parents, Muammed and Sakina Sharif; and a brother Majeed Sharif.
Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens under the direction of Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel. Private family services have been held.
