William “Bill” Yannaccone, 92, died July 10, 2014 in Cheyenne.
He was born October 23, 1921 in Minersville, Pennsylvania to Alexander and Teena (DeMaria) Yannaccone. He graduated from Lafayette College in 1943, joining the United States Navy in 1944 serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He later worked as a civil engineer for both the state and federal government, living in Cheyenne intermittently until retiring permanently in 1991. He was a member of the Elk’s Lodge #0660, American Legion Post #0435, Knights of Columbus, and an endowment member of the National Rifle Association. He volunteered at the State Museum. He was an outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He was adopted by the Crow Indian Tribe, being named “Red Bear”.
He is survived by sister Betty Salmeri; brother Frank Yannaccone;sister-in-law Dorothy Yannaccone and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brother, Robert Yannaccone, M.D.; sister -in-law Rae Yannaccone and niece Tina Marie Cole.
Funeral Liturgy will occur Monday, August 4th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Cathedral. Honorary bearers will be Connie Scigliano, Celine Barbour, Silas Cole, Robert Yannaccone, Paul Yannaccone, Rob Yannaccone, Jim Yannaccone, Tom Yannaccone, Phillip Yannaccone, and John Yannaccone. Interment will occur at a later date in Pennsylvania.
