William J. Severson, 85, of Cheyenne passed away May 16 at his home.
He was born July 17, 1930 to Severt G. and Relda E. (Curry) Severson at Ideal, South Dakota, the fifth of twelve children.
In 1939, the family made the move to Western Nebraska where William lived until he moved to South Dakota in 1948 to help build the Angostura Dam.
He married Betty D. Guth in 1955, and they made their home in Cheyenne. The couple had two sons, William and Terry. William and Betty were blessed with 48 years of marriage, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In 1951, he began his 45 year career in the trucking industry as a professional driver with Standard Oil of Casper. He spent the remainder of his career with I.M.L Transportation Co. of Salt Lake City, UT; Great Plains Welding Supply Co. of Cheyenne; and finally retired from Roadway Transportation Co. of Cheyenne. After retirement, he enjoyed spending his days restoring old cars, pick-ups, and over-the-road trucks.
William was preceded in death by his wife; parents; three sisters and five brothers.
He is survived by his sons, William and Terry; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, all of Cheyenne; brothers, Frank and Don of Gering, NE, Ron (Delores) of Green Valley, AZ; seven nieces and twenty-three nephews.
Viewing will be 10 a.m. – 8 p.m., Tuesday at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel.
At William’s request, there will be graveside services 11:00 a.m., Wednesday at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering, NE with Rev. Seth Leypoldt officiating.
