Willard “Gene” Holthus passed from earthly life to eternal life in Paradise with his Savior Jesus on June 9, 2015, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Gene was born September 11, 1926 in Smithfield, Nebraska to George and Lena Holthus (nee Bartels). He was the second of nine children. He was adopted into God’s family in Baptism on October 3, 1926, graduated from High School in Alliance, Nebraska, served in the U.S. Army during 1945 and 1946 including time overseas in Japan. When he returned to Alliance he met Alta Colerick whom he married on January 2, 1949. He and Alta had a wonderful marriage for over 58 years until she passed away in April of 2007. They have three sons: Daniel, his wife Debbie, their children Jeremiah (wife Lisa) and Devon; Barton, his wife Marla, their children Kristin (husband Ryan) and Dylan; James, his wife Lynda, their children Amber (partner Amy) and Dustin (wife Kristin). In addition they now have 10 great grand children and counting. His parents, 5 brothers and one sister preceded Gene in death. Brother Neal and sisters Wiletta and Lorraine, as well as all those listed above survive him.
Gene’s legacy cannot be captured in mere words; his impact on all of us will last forever. He was a loving and dedicated husband and terrific father. He truly was the spiritual leader of his house who raised his children to love and trust in their Savior.
Services will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church (LCMS) in Cheyenne on Monday June 15th at 11 am with Reverend Joshua Scheer and Reverend Marcus Baikie officiating. Memorials can be made to Our Savior Lutheran Building Fund. Funeral services are under the direction of Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel and online tributes can be sent to the family at
