Wendell Glenn "Stew" Stewart passed away peacefully at his home on the morning of August 6, 2021. He was 80 years old. Wendell was born on September 10, 1940 in Ravencliff, West Virginia to Glenn and Colleen Stewart.
Wendell graduated from Glen Rodgers High School in 1959. After graduation, he attended college at Beckley College in Beckley, West Virginia, and majored in accounting. Wendell proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and was honorably discharged in 1965. Wendell was stationed in Colorado Springs, CO where he met Marilyn Elmore who was employed by the Army Air Defense Command. Wendell and Marilyn married on November 25, 1965 and raised six children together. After leaving the service, Wendell was employed at WYCON Chemical. After the plant was closed, Wendell was transferred to the Cheyenne plant.
Wendell retired from Coastal Chemical (formerly WYCON Chemical) after serving as the company’s Director of Transportation.
Wendell enjoyed spending time with his family laughing and joking at the retelling of old stories. Shortly before he passed, he said his families’ voices were “the sweetest sound.” He enjoyed spending time with his dogs, Toots and Piper, and his four cats. Wendell was an avid Rockies fan and never missed watching a game on TV. He also enjoyed traveling to West Virginia to visit family and reading Western-themed books.
Wendell received the gift of baptism at his bedside on August 2, 2021 by Pastor Galen Huck. Wendell and his wife Linda faithfully attended Cheyenne Hills Church for the past six years.
Wendell is survived by his wife of six years, Linda Briley-Stewart of Cheyenne, WY; a daughter, Lesa Kolm (Gary) of Berthoud, CO; a son, Scott Stewart (Kimberly) of Cheyenne, WY; a son, Eric Stewart (Shelli) of Cheyenne, WY; and a daughter-in-law, Stacey Stewart of Cheyenne, WY. Wendell adored his grandchildren, Chris Johnson (Michaela) of Aurora, CO; Aaron Kolm of Longmont, CO; Melinda Hummel (Valley) of Berthoud, CO; Amber Halvorsen of Cheyenne, WY; Charnele Long (Tanner) of Mitchell, NE; Jaydan Stewart, Brendan Stewart, Emily Stewart, Braeden Stewart, Brock Stewart, Braxden Stewart and Angel Stewart all of Cheyenne, WY. Wendell also had eight great-grandchildren, Aspen, Rowen, Mackenzie and Maverick Hummel of Berthoud, CO; Aubrey Cruz and Gabe Halvorsen of Cheyenne, WY; Elliott Long of Mitchell, NE; and Loretta Johnson of Aurora, CO. Wendell was close to his sister, Brenda (Terry) Daniels of Fairdale, West Virginia, and his brother, Tim Stewart of Beckley, West Virginia.
Wendell is preceded into death by his wife of 41 years, Marilyn Stewart who passed in 2007; a daughter, Lori Johnson who passed in 1987; a son, Glenn Stewart who passed in 2014; a son, Jeff Stewart who passed in 2015; and his parents, Glenn and Colleen Stewart.
A graveside service honoring Wendell will be performed on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, 3:00 p.m., at Lakeview Cemetery.
A celebration of life will take place at 4701 Craigy-J Drive following the service.
