Wendell R. Goodwin, 74, of Cheyenne, died on Sunday, July 21, 2019, at the Granite Rehabilitation and Wellness Center.
He was born on August 27, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois.
Wendell Goodwin served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War on the USS Prairie. After he left the service he worked for Digital Equipment where he was a software instructor. He got his Bachelors in Business from San Jose State University. He worked for a sub-contractor for NASA. He spent many years working at Tri Valley Growers as a Network Manager, and finally he was IT for Health Services at Northern Arizona University. Wendell loved to travel especially visiting family on the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indian Reservation. He loved acting in community theatre throughout the years especially Fiddler on the Roof and Brigadoon, was a volunteer fireman prior to being in the navy, and had a huge love of trains that he worked on the Illinois Central as a tower man just like his father, and in retirement was a fireman/conductor for the Grand Canyon Railway in Williams Arizona. He collected model trains and loved to go to train shows. He had a huge heart for animals, being a father, and helping who ever he could. He flew single and twin engine airplanes as well as had trained for flight aerobatics. He was a member of the Z car club for his 1972 240z that he loved to work and zip around in. He was an avid researcher for working on the family genealogy. He had a radio telephone operators license, loved music ,and played the guitar, trumpet, and banjo. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 6.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Goodwin; children, Kerry Goodwin and Merritt Goodwin; and a sister, Roberta Breyfogle.
Mr. Goodwin was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Eva Goodwin; and his siblings, Jim Goodwin, Fern Marjorie Goodwin, and Peggy Ettema.
Services will be Monday, 10:00 a.m., at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel with military honors and burial to follow at Beth El Cemetery.
