Wayne A. Lewis, 83, of Cheyenne died Sept. 6 at Life Care Center.
He was born May 18, 1931 in El Dorado, KS. Wayne met his wife, Catherine Joan Lehr, in high school, and they were married in 1955.
Following enlistment and service in the U.S. Air Force as a first sergeant, Wayne graduated from Wichita State University in 1958 with a degree in business administration. He worked as an insurance adjuster, a real estate supervisor and regional general manager for Tennecco and Diamond Gas in Broomfield, CO, before starting his own retail oil company in Denver. Wayne and his wife Joan moved to Cheyenne in 1973 where he managed the Little America Truck Stop until his retirement in 1991.
Wayne enjoyed carpentry, wood carving, archaeology, skiing, music and spending time with family. He is survived by his wife, Joan, of Cheyenne, his sister, Patricia Bailey, of El Dorado and Wichita Kansas, two sons and their wives, Chuck and Allison Lewis of Denver, CO and Tony and Cindy Lewis of Cheyenne; a daughter and her husband, Celia and Joe Janousek of O’Neill, NE; and six grandchildren: Ryan, Elliott and Hannah Janousek of O’Neill, NE; Matt Lewis of Vail, CO.; and Abigail Fournier and Maddie Lewis of
Cheyenne.
Memorial services will include a Rosary and meditation from 6-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 11 at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes and a mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral on Friday, Sept. 12 at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Mary's Cathedral or Habitat for Humanity of Laramie County.
