Walter B. Noakes, 90, of Cheyenne died Oct. 5 at home.
He was born Oct. 21, 1924, on the family farm in Grady County, Okla., to Walter H. and Ina Noakes.
He attended one year at the University of Oklahoma before entering the U.S. Army. He served in the European and China Burma India Theaters in World War II.
He earned a bachelor's degree in Personnel Psychology in 1950 and went on to a career in health care administration at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City.
Walter then attended Northwestern University, completing his master's degree in hospital administration in 1958.
He accepted a position as associate administrator of St. Anthony Hospital in Amarillo, Texas. There, he married Dorris Richardson.
In 1963, they moved to Colorado, where Walter became associate director of hospitals at the University of Colorado Medical Center.
In 1973, the family moved from Denver to Cheyenne, where Walter was associate administrator of DePaul Hospital until his retirement in 1989.
Walter is survived by his wife, Dorris; daughter, Julie; son, Richard (Priscilla); granddaughter, Samantha; grandson, Zachary; grandson, Samuel Noakes and his mother, Helen Noakes; sister, Nadine; and brother, Bob; as well as many treasured nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Larry; infant son, Peter; brothers, Marvin, Virgil, Ivan, Audrey, John and Bill; and sister, Lerlene.
A lifelong Southern Baptist, Walter was a member of Sunnyside Baptist Church, where he worshiped and served for 42 years.
Cremation has taken place at Wiederspahn Radomsky funeral home.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sunnyside Baptist Church with a reception immediately following at the Fellowship Hall.
