Walter E. Mecomber, 83 of Cheyenne passed away April 27.
He was born April 11, 1934, on the South Side of Cheyenne to Henrietta and Sheldon Mecomber.
Walt was a fifth generation Cheyenne resident. He graduated from Cheyenne High in 1953, then worked for KFBC television station as a cameraman and Farm and Ranch Reporter. He was a civil engineer at Lowry Air Force Base in Aurora, Colorado from 1962-1994.
In 1957 he married Bobbi Land.
Walt was a storyteller and never met a stranger. Walt worked for several rodeo companies and was famous for being the “arena gate man.” Walt was a volunteer on the contestants committee and the ERP committee for Cheyenne Frontier Days. Walt was very proud to be able to say he attended 80 consecutive CFD celebrations.
Walt is survived by his wife, Bobbi; daughters, T.J. (Norm) Russi and Chele (Doug) Porter of Burns: granddaughters, Robbi (Larry Jares) Russi of Cheyenne, Kylie Porter of Burns and Eylisch Porter of Laramie; grandson, Brandon Russi of Burns; and great grandson, Braden Jares.
He was preceded in death by his son, Bradley; parents, brother, Jim; and sister, Marlene.
Per his request there will be no funeral but a celebration of his life will happen at a later date. Arrangements are with Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel.
