Wallace Hoem

June 25, 1933 — February 12, 2019

Wallace (Big Wally) Hoem went home to “meet his maker” on February 12th, 2019. Wally was born June 25th, 1933 on “The Hoem Farm” in Blair, WI. He was so small at birth that he slept in an open chest of drawers & went on to wear the nickname Big Wally proudly. He left high school early to enlist in the U.S. Navy and sailed the world several times over. We were hard pressed to find a port that he hadn’t visited. After the Navy he spent the next few years ranching with his brother Buck in Saratoga, WY. Eventually he reenlisted in the armed services, this time in the U.S. Air Force. While stationed at Chicksands AFB, England he met the love of his life Patricia Maltby. They were married October 27, 1962. Wally’s military career took the family all over the world. Along the way 4 boys were born: Gary, Brett, David, & Lee. In 1973 the family moved to Cheyenne & in 1981 he retired from the Air Force. Later he went on to earn his journeyman electrician license while working for Flack Advertising and Fitch Electric. He was still doing side jobs into his late 70’s. Wally was truly the man who never met a stranger and would give you the shirt off his back. His influence was immense, and his sense of humor was legendary. He spent hours upon hours planning and implementing intricate practical jokes. Wally enjoyed fishing, bowling, darts, horseshoes, old Farmall tractors & antique cars. His greatest love was always his family especially his 5 grandchildren, for whom he would always make time.
Wally was preceded in death by his parents, Iver & Tillie, brothers Chuck & Buck, and sisters Irene & Lillian.
He is survived by his wife Patricia; sons, Gary (Nicole), Brett (Dan), David (Janelle), & Lee (Elaine); grandchildren, Lucas, Brandon, Gracie, Tyler, & Reiley; siblings, Duane Hoem, LaMae Krug; and many nieces & nephews.
