Vonna Belle “Vonnie” (Schneidereit) Martin died Nov. 30, 2014 in Oklahoma.
She was born October 10, 1923 in Ainsworth, NE. The family lived in Meadville, NE until 1927 then moved to Todd County near Mission, SD. They lived in a sod house without running water, electricity, or in-door plumbing. She went to a one room country school until high school when she returned to Ainsworth to finish her schooling. In 1942 she married Don McMurtry. They had one son. Don died in 1943. Vonna worked as a waitress at the Plains Hotel and later at the Savoy Cafe. She married Charles E. Martin in 1946 and they had two children. Vonna loved serving people and enjoyed cooking and baking. She helped several wayward teen boys along the way. Vonnie was a student of the Bible and an intercessor. She was always an active member in her church. She had a wonderful sense of humor, even to the end of her days. She loved much and will never be forgotten by the people whose lives she touched. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed.
She is survived by three children, Charles D McMurtry, Rebecca (Wayne) Way and Paul (Deborah) Martin; grandchildren, Kristen Decker, Kevin Way (Bonnie VanOrsdol), Brett (Bethany) Martin, Keenan (Jana) Martin; great-grandchildren, Cody Decker, Caitlyn Snider and Reese, Olivia, Kayleigh, and Zachary Martin, Skyler Davis, Katy VanOrsdol, and Samantha Kane and her great-great-grandchildren, Aidan Decker, Shaye Taylor and Jessica Kane.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E Martin; parents, Herman Ludwig Schneidereit, Jr. and Sylvia Belle Newcomb; siblings, Lilly Horton, Arnolla Assman, Luella Jaeger, and an infant brother.
