Viva Mavis (Day) Hutchens, longtime resident of Cheyenne, passed into Heaven on Friday, April 24, 2015.
Viva was an amazing 99 years of age at the time of her death. She was born to her parents, Walter Charles and Minnie Myrtle Day on September 11, 1915 in the Sandhills of Nebraska near the little town of Climax, Nebraska.
Viva attended school near Arnold, Nebraska and at the age of twenty married Everett Joel Hutchens on June 15, 1935. To this union were born two children, a son, Glenard Lee and a daughter, Arnett Kay. The family decided to leave Nebraska during the years of the Dust Bowl to begin a life of farming in Fremont County, Wyoming. In 1942, opportunity came for Everett to take employment with the UPRR in Cheyenne. Here, the family was blessed with a happy and secure life.
Viva was a loving and faithful member of the Miracle Valley Assembly of God church in Cheyenne. She loved her church and served as a Sunday School teacher and church pianist. After she moved to Aspen Winds, she had the joy of playing piano for the residents at age 98. Viva enjoyed the hobbies of gardening, sewing, music and art. She was a very talented artist and several people have a sample of her artistic ability in their homes. She loved having coffee with her friends each Saturday and traveling with her husband while he was living.
