Virl Dail Carter was born in the rural town of Lafe, Arkansas to Opal Overton Carter on May 11, 1939, and died just after midnight on August 26, 2021, in Cheyenne, Wyoming at the age of 82. As a member of the Silent or Builder Generation, Dail’s early years were not easy, especially having been born just months before the start of World War II. As with most women during World War II who went to work while the men answered the call to service in the military, Dail’s mother temporarily relocated to Lyons, Michigan, where she found work in a factory leaving Dail behind in Arkansas to be raised by his maternal grandparents, Overton Columbus and Daisie Mae (Webb) Carter. Dail met his wife, Doris (Cook) Carter, in Rawlins, WY and they were married in 1967 and had two children, Shree and Cameron.
Dail is preceded in death by his grandparents, Overton and Daisie Mae (Webb) Carter; mother, Opal Overton Carter; stepfather, E.G. Ward; siblings, Robert Ward, ReGene (Ward) Fitzgerald, and Larry Carter.
He is survived by his wife, Doris (Cook) Carter (Cheyenne, WY); daughter, Shree Carter (Costa Mesa, CA); son and daughter-in-law, Cameron and Tonia (Martin) Carter (Cheyenne, WY) along with grandson, Logan Carter; granddaughters, Alexis and Piper Carter; siblings, Jimmie D. Ward (St. Louis, MO), Joyce (Ward) Murray (St. Louis, MO), Nyoka “Sue” Carter (Bedford, VA), Carl Ward (White Plains, MO), James Ward (Kennett, MO), Sharon (Ward) Webb (St. Charles, MO), Jan (Ward) Blecher (Gibson, MO), Thurman Ward (White Plains, MO), Harold Ward (Poplar Bluff, MO); and several nieces and nephews.

Flowers for the service are welcomed, or in lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the Cancer Center at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center to help in the continued research and treatment of cancer patients.
