Virginia Kathryn Edgar passed away surrounded by the love of her family after a brief illness at Davis Hospice Center on September 1, 2018. She was born on April 8, 1938 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and was adopted 11 days later by her beloved parents, Roy and Lenore (Clementsen) Schmid. The pending war brought new professional responsibilities for her father causing the family to move to Cheyenne in 1941. Virginia graduated from Saint Mary High School in 1956 and attended Loretto Heights College in Denver, Colorado before returning to Cheyenne. She met the love of her life, Don Edgar, while square dancing at a street party in downtown Cheyenne. After a short courtship the two were married in December 1959. Seven children joined the family during the next several years. A busy and active mother, Virginia enjoyed accompanying the children’s school choir. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi, the Fork and Knife Club and active with her church.
Virginia worked as a medical transcriptionist for several doctors before accepting a position with DAFC (State of Wyoming). She retired from her “temporary” position 17 years later. Don and Virginia retired to Battlement Mesa, Colorado where Virginia was active with the Sagebrush Singers, Garfield County Senior Volunteers, Saint Brendan’s Church as a guest writer for the Battlement Mesa News.
Don and Virginia returned to Cheyenne in 2009, where they were able to spend time with their grandchildren and enjoy their family. Virginia is survived by her husband of 58 years, Donald; children, Diane Edgar, Marie (Brad) Miskimins, Daniel (Jeanne) Edgar, Julie (George) Gliem and Cynthia (James) Hayden, all of Cheyenne, and Phillip (Karrina) Edgar of Scottsdale, Arizona, 10 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Roy and Lenore Schmid, daughter, Karon Ilene Edgar, brothers, John and Charles Schmid, and daughter-in-law, Leandra Edgar. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Saint Mary School or a charity of your choice.
