Violet N. Palmertree
January 14, 1928 - May 12, 2016
On May 12, 2016 God called her home to rest and be free of the disease that robbed her of precious memories. Born in Stillwell, OK to Jasper Newt and Addie Lee Toney, the third of five children. She moved with the family in the early 40’s to Colorado Springs, CO where she attended Colorado Springs High School (Palmer High) graduating in 1946.
She married Billie U. Palmertree on November 13, 1946 and became an Air Force spouse and enjoyed their military career of nearly 28 years. They raised two daughters, Deborah Karen born in South Rislip, England in 1954, and daughter Cheryl Patrice born in Lake Charles LA in 1958. Many tours and thousands of miles later they retired from military life in Cheyenne, WY in 1973. They celebrated almost 46 years of marriage before his death in 1992.
She was preceded in death by her husband Billie U Palmertree (Ret. Msgt USAF), her daughter Deborah K. Howshar, her brothers Garland Toney, William Toney, Raymond Toney, and sister Margaret Essie Glass.
She is survived by daughter Cheryl and husband David Stanczyk (ret. Col. USAF), son in law David R. Howshar, grandsons Joel Stanczyk, wife Kelly Jean Stanczyk and great grandson Elijah Titus Stanczyk; 1Lt Cody Stanczyk and wife Sarah Stanczyk; and Michael Howshar. Also surviving are her niece Sharon Rogers and husband James Rogers and their children Danny(Sherrie) Rogers with their children Dylan and Sheridan; Cherie (Shawn) Sanchez and their children Raven and Stone. Additionally, she is survived by her brother Garland’s daughter, Lynn Burton of Jacksonville, Florida.
Violet was an incredible seamstress sewing clothing for her and the girl, teaching them sewing skills they both continued well into their adult years. An exceptional cook she made sure her children learned to cook and experience different foods during their travels. She was a meticulous bookkeeper, and enjoyed the jobs she held throughout the years, but mostly in catalog at Montgomery Wards in Cheyenne, WY. She always had a friendly smile and welcoming tone meeting people. Her greatest enjoyment was her grandchildren. She spent many hours driving just to spend time at a birthday or special occasion. She got to meet her great grandson last November and though she didn’t remember the time she always looked at photos and smiled when told that was her great grandson Elijah.
We are better for her having been in our lives whether as a parent, grandparent or Aunt. She had an infectious smile and loved to laugh. As we celebrate her life we remember the good times and memories made with her and keep them close to our heart.
