Violet Marie Katana, 96, of Ashland, Nebraska passed away March 9, 2018 in Ashland.
She was born November 9, 1921 in Cayuga, ND.
Violet attended Billings Beauty School in Montana during her junior and senior years of high school. Upon completion, she worked in Hattie’s Beauty Shop in Cheyenne.
She became a temporary Christmas helper for the US Postal Service; in 1955 she became a substitute and then a clerk, retiring in 1976.
Violet married Jack Katana Feb. 12, 1941 in Rock Springs. While Jack served in the Navy, she worked in various defense plants in Wyoming and California.
She was a charter member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, Croatian Fraternal Union, and the American Postal Workers Union.
Violet is survived by her daughter, Jacquolynn “Jackie” Rapier and grandsons, Sean (Anne) Rapier, of The Dells, Wisconsin and Brian (Stephany) Rapier of Belgrade, Serbia.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents, Thomas and Sophie Micka; son, Edward Katana; siblings, Albina, Agnes, Thomas, Joseph, Edward and Benedict; and a son-in-law, John Rapier, III.
Funeral Liturgy will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.
