Violet Pearl (Larsen) Hanks, 77, of Cheyenne, went to be with our Lord on Monday, June 18, 2018 at University Hospital in Aurora, Colorado.
She was born on July 16, 1940 in Stuart, Nebraska to Arthur and Agnes Horton. She was born in the farmhouse that she was raised in about 11 miles from Stuart, NE. Her Grandmother, Josie Dohnal, was present when she was born. Her Dad was busy fetching the Doctor, but by the time he got him there all he had to do was cut the cord, fill out the birth certificate and put drops in her eyes. She was the second of nine children; Dee Hock (Deceased), Liz Greenwood, Angel Horton (deceased as a newborn), Oliver Horton, Shirley Fisk, Share Bangert, Nancy Timmons, and Randy Horton.
Vi was a full time Mother and worked as CNA at Mountainview Towers, specializing in the care of Alzheimer patients. She saw her profession as a calling and carried her sewing basket everyday to work to mend cloths and sew on buttons. After retirement, she continued to care for others by visiting the sick in the hospital and nursing homes, checking on her neighbors, picking up seniors for church and offering a ride to those in need.
She is survived by her 6 children: Sylvia McArtor, Sandra Wadlow (Fred), Donna Cartwright (Chad), Bonnie Larsen, Laura Schilz (Scott), and David Larsen. She is also survived by 11 Grandchildren: Nichole Larsen, Joshua Larsen, Brent Larsen, Andrew Larsen, Aaron Schilz, Ariel Mennone, Anishka Wadlow, Alicia Courson, Brendan Wadlow, Abigail Schilz and Brooke Cartwright. She is also survived by 10 great grandchildren: Tristan, Jaiden, Rylan, Jasmine, Liam, Serenity, Melody, Ruby, Anastasia, and Drake. Her first Great Great Grandchild is on the way.
Vi Hanks was preceded in death by her Husband Neil Hanks.
Upon her death her children found the following notes in her diary:
"All I can say to all of you my dear ones is we are put here for a purpose. Sometimes not under the greatest circumstances, but nonetheless what we make of our lives is up to us. My hope for all of you is you give God a listening ear during your short lifetime, as time goes by so fast, and the next life will be the one that lasts. Be wise, loving & caring and you should do okay. Love Mom”
Memorial services will be Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at Miracle Valley Church.
Private family burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery.
