Vernon D. Holloway, 83, passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at his residence in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He was born on October 5, 1937, in a small house on 11th street in Rawlins. Vernon attended schools in Rawlins until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After serving 4 years in the Navy, Vernon returned to the call of the outdoors and his love for Wyoming.
In 1980, he became the proprietor of a bar in Rawlins that he later named the Hole-In-The-Wall. In 1985, he met and later married Carolyn McCoy. Vernon will be remembered for his love of Wyoming, the outdoors, hunting and camping with his many friends. Vernon also had a passion for building things and upon retirement he single handedly built his and Carolyn’s dream cabin in the Sierra Madre Mountains near Encampment. Family and friends will remember the many beautiful beds and assorted furniture that he made out of dead lodge pole pine and birch trees.
In later years, for medical reasons, Vern and Carolyn moved to Cheyenne. Carolyn, whom Vernon called “Babe” passed away in 2017.
Vernon is survived by his brother, Ron Holloway; and numerous other relatives and friends throughout the United States.
As per Vernon’s wishes, he and Carolyn’s ashes will be spread at their cabin in the mountains.
