Thurman R. King, 96, of Cheyenne, died on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at the VA Hospital in Cheyenne.
He was born on December 26, 1919 in Vancouver, Washington and moved to Cheyenne when he was one month old.
Mr. King was a farmer and a jack of all trades. He was a carpenter, mechanic, and built the first Taco Hut on Carey Avenue, which is now Taco John’s. He was the oldest living member of the American Legion Post 6 and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He also enjoyed fishing.
Thurman is survived by his wife, Doris King, whom he married on October 14, 1984 in Ft. Collins; son, Galen King; daughter, Gwendolyn Holloway; stepson, Michael Land; stepdaughter, Pamela Metzler (Greg); eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bertha King on November 3, 1981; his parents, Theodore and Elizabeth King; a sister, Emma Lou Reidel; and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Anne Howle.
Services will be Thursday, 2:00 p.m., at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel.
Interment will be in Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.
