Thomas Richard Porter, 84, of Carpenter, died on June 8, 2022.
He was born on May 23, 1938 in Carpenter at home.
Tom worked on the family wheat farm in Carpenter most of his life and cared for his disabled mother as long as possible in their home. He mentored his nephews each summer and gave them the experience of farm living. He was a mechanic in the Army National Guard and worked as a welder for WyCon Chemical in Cheyenne for several years. He spent a lot of his time providing mechanical and other services for his neighbors.
Tom loved to tinker and build things. His many projects included clock making, hutches, bowls, furniture, and cabinets. One of his prize accomplishments was a swing set at his brother’s house for his nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Dell Rae Porter Bridges, nephews Sonny/Kathy Porter, Gerry Porter and Jack/Kim Porter, and nieces Sherry/Monte Hughes and Polly/Sonny Cross, as well as numerous great nieces and nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Minnie Porter; brothers, George (Sonny), Bill, and Bobby Porter; nephew, Billy Porter; and niece, Loy Dene Waldradt, and his cousin and close friend, Larry Poelma.
Visitation will be Tuesday, 9-5 at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, 1:00 p.m. at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.
