Thomas "Tom" Korthals

March 11, 1951 — January 13, 2021

On January 12th 2021, Thomas “Tom” Korthals took one last flight to be with God. Tom was born in La Crosse, Wisconsin however, being born into a military family, he spent most of his childhood all over the world. He lived in Japan, Morocco, and Peru before returning to the US at the end of high school.
Tom’s lifelong dream was to become a pilot in the United States Air Force, a dream he realized with an appointment to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. Tom loved to fly and often reflected fondly on his time as a pilot in the USAF.
Tom was an avid supporter of Cheyenne Frontier Days and a volunteer for over three decades. During his time with CFD, he volunteered on the Tickets and Public Relations Committee’s and was inducted as a member of the Heels in 2008. He enjoyed his time as a volunteer and loved the friendships he made along the way. One of his favorite things during CFD was cooking milk can dinners for the committee members and sharing some of his Wisconsin heritage.
He and his wife Tammy loved to travel. Their favorite places included Mexico, Saratoga WY, and taking cruises. One memorable cruise took them from Miami, FL all the way around the southern tip of South America to Santiago Chile.
After retiring from the Air Force, Tom found his second calling as a financial planner and eventually opened his own firm in Cheyenne, WY. He enjoyed helping his clients with their finances and planning for the future.
Tom is survived by his loving wife Tammy; his son Bill Korthals (TX), his wife Abbey, and their sons Collin and Brennan; his sister Sue Bacon (AZ), her husband Phil, and their son Chip; in addition to a great number of relatives from Tammy’s family; as well as many wonderful friends for whom he cherished. He is proceeded in death by his mother and father, June and Bill Korthals.
