Services for Stewart A. “Tony” Zuber, 76, of Cheyenne will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel. Cremation will follow at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Zuber died March 17th at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center.
Stewart Zuber was born March 21, 1939 in Davenport, Iowa, the youngest son of Ernest V. and Florence (Doolittle) Zuber.
He was united in marriage to Gretchen Grimm on October 15, 1966, later divorcing.
Stewart enlisted in the United States Navy in 1958, remaining in the Naval Reserve until 1978 when he resigned his commission as a Chief Warrant Officer and accepted a position in the Wyoming Air National Guard. He retired from the Wyoming Air National Guard in 1998 as a Lt. Col. With over 40 years of military service.
He attended and graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1969 and from the University of Wyoming with a MBA in 1977. He began his working career with the Veterans Administration Department of Medicine and Surgery. He was the Assistant Engineer at the VA hospital in Iowa City, Iowa before being assigned to the VA Medical and Regional Office Center in Cheyenne in 1972. He left the VA in 1983 to stay in Cheyenne and accepted a position as the Assistant Base Civil Engineer at the WY ANG. He retired as the Base Civil Engineer and the Commander of the 153 Civil Engineering Squadron.
His memberships include Capital Lodge 54 A.F. & A.M. the Cheyenne Shrine Club, where he held the position of President, Ascension Lutheran Church, Elks Lodge 660, former member of the Sunrise Lions Club and he volunteered with the Meals on Wheels garage sale.
As an avid sports fan, Stewart loved anything to do with golf and following the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Bears and Cubs.
Survivors include his two sons, Matthew and daughter-in-law, Kris of Fort Collins, Colorado and Wayne of Washington D.C.; daughter, Elenora Zuber of Cheyenne; grandchildren, Sarah, Scott and Steven Zuber, all of Fort Collins and McKenzie Weber of Cheyenne; brother, Arvid Zuber; two sisters, Judy Wessenberg and Jean Hill and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Richard Zuber, Ernest V. Zuber, Jr., and Tom Zuber and sister, Helen (Zuber) McVey. May they rest in peace.
