Steven Adam Norris, 38, died from colon cancer on Veteran’s Day, November 11, 2017. He had been at his home for the last several weeks under family and Hospice care and spent his last hours at the Davis Hospice Center.
Steven was born on August 11th, 1979 in Douglas, Wyoming. He and his family lived there until 1985 when they moved to Seattle, Washington. In November of 1990 they moved to Cheyenne where his father became the pastor of Meadowbrooke Baptist Church.
Steve looked back on a number of favorite memories. They included: a close knit family; a no-hitter he threw in baseball; camping as a boy; coming to Jesus as Savior and Lord; playing with his best friend and sister Robin; playing trombone in the East high band; Deca in high school; playing baseball and softball; 4 years in the U.S. Marine Corps as a trainer on the shooting range; hunting elk and deer; fishing; being the Fire Arms Examiner for the state of Wyoming; raising his three sons; being a Cub Scout leader; playing guitar on a worship team for children with his mother; learning a new trade involving construction and siding buildings; growing in his faith and knowledge of his Savior.
Steve was grateful for the more than $10,000 that was given by many friends to support him these last three months, the compassionate care given by doctors and nurses at the VA hospital and Hospice, the food and many acts of kindness and love from friends, co-workers and family.
He is survived by his three sons, Ethan Horsley, Eli and Christian Norris; his sister, Robin and her husband Yanni Papaleka and their sons Dimitri and Lukan; his father and mother, Bob and Judy Norris; his friend, Jordan Norris; by aunts and uncles and cousins on both sides of his family and by co-workers, friends and brothers and sisters in Christ who provided an avalanche of care these last three months.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Jay and Irene Evans, and his paternal grandmother, Beulah Norris.
A funeral service will be held this Friday, November 17th, at 1:00 p.m. at Calvary Chapel with Pastor Shaun Sells giving comfort and encouragement from God’s Word. A graveside service with military honors will follow at Bethel Cemetery. Either flowers or gifts to Compassion International would be appreciated.
