Stephen “Skeeter” Yasko, leather artist and seventeen-year resident of Cody and Cheyenne, Wyoming passed away on April 4th. Skeeter was 36 years old.
Skeeter grew up in the Ocala, Florida area and graduated from North Marion High School. He held a Welding Certificate from Marion County Community College and an Associate Degree in Pre-Education from the Laramie County Community College. There, he was active in debates and performing in the Cheyenne Little Theater.
It’s been said that Skeeter had 5 different families that each held a passion for him. First, his Immediate and Extended Family; those who lived both close and faraway. Second, his Rodeo and Oil Rig Family from his years working in those industries. Third, his Agricultural Family, where he loved animal training, especially horses. Fourth, his Leather Craft Family where he poured his talents into creating works of art for others to enjoy. And, fifth, his extended family that stayed together through social media.
It’s been said that Skeeter was the “king of ding and ping” because his phone always had alerts of calls and texts as he stayed close to those he loved.
Skeeter is survived by his parents Darlene and Marvin Nash, a brother and sister-in-law, Cody and Farley Nash (from Altus, OK), a brother and sister-in-law, Rocky and Heather Yasko (Hadley, PA), a sister and brother-in-law Amy and Dixie Haymes (Tulsa, OK), an Aunt and Uncle - Stacy Lynn and Lester Counts (Silver Springs, FL), two nieces, Jaycee Yasko and Presley Yasko (Hadley, PA), a godmother, Sandi Reinhart (Ocala, FL), and several cousins throughout Florida.
Skeeter has been cremated and several memorial services are in the planning stages to accommodate his many friends all over the United States.
Here’s only a small sample of the comments those who loved Skeeter have made.
“I woke up today with determination! I can hear Skeeter saying, "dust yourself off, and get that damn Sheridan project done! And clean that messy shop while you're at it!" Then his big old laugh! Alright buddy, I'm gonna do this!
Thanks for all the laughs, and the shoulder when things were rough. I'm gonna miss those regular calls about the leather group, or just to say hi! I'm gonna miss being able to call you excited about things, or mad because I messed something up. I'm gonna miss your critique of my Sheridan projects!
What hurts the most is the pain I see in my little girl's eyes, because her big buddy, Skeeter isn't going to be in Sheridan anymore to tease her and give her a great big bear hug!
We miss you my friend! Now you're able to meet some of those amazing leathercrafters! Tell them I said hi!” --. Amanda
“Heaven gained another wonderful soul. RIP my friend, we will sure miss you pard.” –Josh P.
“RIP my friend. Thanks for all the laughs and good times…” -- Josh T.
“Your two little nieces are going to miss you terribly. Jaycee says she’s got a crazy guardian angel looking out for her now. Presley is too little to understand, but like I’ve said for a while now, she’s got your eyes and is a little Skeeter. You were very loved and will be missed by all who knew you.” -- Heather
There was so many good times we have had together ,camping in sunlight, cutting wood on Carter, horn hunting all over the place, deer hunting in our favorite place, hitting the hills on our wheelers, cruising the strip, working on our handgun skills, and the list goes on....they don't make 'em like you anymore.....keep crackin' that whip. Until we meet again....I love you, brother.” -- Bud
“I met Skeeter back in 2009 and can say he was one of my first friends out in Wyoming. He had the biggest heart and gave the best hugs anyone could ask for. Hugs to you, Skeeter!” -- Trisha

“Today, Heaven gained another Angel. Rest easy., Skeeter. You were one of my dearest friends and you helped me through some real tough times and laughed with me through some really great and memorable times. I'll never forget you. I'll never forget our fishing trips, our taking turns cooking up supper for each other, our drive to Billings just to eat breakfast at Golden Corral, nor the times I'd come in and hang out with you when you worked at Rocky Mountain Sports. See you later, brother.” – James
