Shirley Fortney, 83 years young, passed away on March 8th in Laramie, Wyoming after a decade long battle with Alzheimers.
Shirley was born August 3, 1934 in Matheson, Colorado to Clyde L. and Mabel F. (Wilson) Peck. She graduated from Greeley High School and earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mathematics from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.
Shirley married David Fortney of Cheyenne, Wyoming on April 10, 1955. They made their home in Cheyenne, Wyoming where Shirley taught math at Laramie County Community College for sixteen years, retiring in May 1990. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, an avid Cleveland Indians fan, and book reader.
She is survived by her husband, David; two sons Rick (Karen) of Cheyenne, Wyoming and Paul (Leslie) of Alpharetta, Georgia; five grandchildren, Marisa (Ryan) Grant of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Jesse Fortney of Alpharetta, Georgia, Alex Fortney of Alpharetta, Georgia, Chandra (Jason) Stettner of Kingman, Arizona and Adrienne (Chris) Gibbs of Cheyenne, Wyoming; four great-grandchildren, Addison and Harper Gibbs of Cheyenne, Wyoming and Holden and Morgan Stettner of Kingman, Arizona; and a brother, Larry Peck of Gillette, Wyoming. She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Vickie Dee, who died shortly after birth in 1963.
