Sherry Lou Zeigler,72, passed away on July 16, 2019 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She was born June 24, 1947 in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Sherry started her adult life going into the Marine Corps as soon as she graduated high school in Indiana. In July of 1968 she met her (current) husband in Washington D.C. Over a 50 dollar bill. A few months later they were getting married on December 1, 1968. They just celebrated their 50th Anniversary in Cheyenne, Wyoming with friends and family watching one of Sherry’s Favorite plays.
As Donald was still in the Army when they got married, Sherry got to travel the world as their home moved all over. Over the many years of moving they got to live in Germany, South Korea, and many different places in the United States of America. She always wanted to go back and see more but as she got older many things changed.
While they were stationed in South Korea, they decided to adopt Tonya, who was an orphan. Sherry was told that they were not going to have a child of their own. Though that changed many years later.
During these times Sherry also started up an in-home daycare for those that were on the base just as they were. This was one of her passions, to take care and teach young children. When they got stationed in Colorado, she chose to go and get her Associates in Early Childhood Education.
When Donald retired from the Army they were in Colorado where they had another daughter Elizabeth. Shortly after Elizabeth was born, they moved up to Cheyenne, Wyoming.
In Cheyenne, Sherry impacted many lives. She volunteered at Goins Elementary for many years, helping students get their work complete, or decorating classrooms. Over the years she decided to go back to Early Childhood teaching.
Sherry enjoyed her life in Cheyenne even if it didn’t have the stores that she loved. She made the most of her life and always enjoyed being on the front porch with family. She enjoyed painting, sewing and embroidery crafts. Every year she painted several items for the Operation Christmas Child.
Sherry was preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Leona (Martin) Green and many aunts and uncles. She is survived by her husband Donald W. Zeigler, Children Tonya Rulla (married to Paul Rulla) of Centennial, CO, and Elizabeth Kimbrough (married to William N. Kimbrough) of Cheyenne, Wy, and grandchildren Taylor, Paul John (P.J.), and Theodor Rulla.
