Sandra Lee Maier, 83, Of Cheyenne, Wyoming, died on April 19, 2023, in Cheyenne. She was born April 14, 1940, in Ft. Collins, CO.
Sandy was a Godly woman who was loved and respected by many and will be missed terribly. In 1958, her Senior year in high school, she started dating her husband of 64 years Larry. She was a cheerleader and Larry a basketball player as well as prom king and queen that year. The competitive duo married in 1959 and moved to Cheyenne, WY and continued to enjoy athletics together which they both excelled at. Sandy was on numerous softball, volleyball, and bowling teams and when she wasn't participating, she was coaching Larry's men's softball team. Always competitive, usually successful teams that even won an award or two. Sandy absolutely loved animals, especially horses. She rode as a Pivot for 10 years at CFD, barrel raced, belonged to the Barrel Race Club and served as president, rode with the Golden Spikes Drill Team where she also served as president, rode in the Rose Bowl Parade, CFD parade, and many others. She showed and managed the drill team for Cheyenne Saddle Tramps where she also served as president. Competitive riding to trail riding with family & friends Sandy loved anything horses. Sandy started working in 1970 with the Wyoming Army National Guard as an Administrative Assistant. She was a dedicated and respected employee for numerous General Officers, Senior Advisors and Colonels for 40 years. She received several awards during her time there and was recognized for her exceptional performance on several different occasions. Sandy loved God and was dedicated to serving Him and her church. She belonged to several committees in the church and published the Hillsdale Chatter Newspaper. She took pride in the Newsletter and received recognition for her work on that as well. She belonged to the Hilsdale and Methodist Ladies groups and always did what she could to volunteer.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Maier; daughters, Nancy Jessop (Randy) and Jeannie Brown; grandkids, Trystin Green (Mike), Britt Jessop (Teresa), and Shelby Wardell (Levi); great grandkids, Anthony Green (Carly), Madison Green, Kadie Brown, Bailey Martinez, Dakota Martinez, Easton Martinez, Jhett Jessop, Oakley Wardell; and great-great grandkid, Benzley Green.
Sandy was preceded in death by both of her parents, siblings; son, Michael Maier; and grandson, Shawn Brown.
Services will be at Wiederspahn-Radomsky on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at 2pm with a reception to follow.
