Sally Ann Madsen, 81, of Cheyenne died peacefully in her home on December 16th.
She was born Sally Ann Ward on November 2, 1934 in Ligonier, Pennsylvania, and spent her childhood in Reynoldsville prior to moving to Wyoming in 1948. She graduated from St. Mary’s School in 1952. In 1953 she met her husband, Dale Madsen while employed as a proofreader for the city newspaper. Legend has it that he won her over with admiring whistles whenever she walked by. They were married in 1954 and had five children.
While her children were younger, Sally was a teaching assistant at St. Mary’s School and the bookkeeper for her husband’s dry cleaning business. In later years she served as an auditor for the State of Wyoming. Throughout her life, Sally was an avid reader, and enjoyed scrap booking, making greeting cards, writing her memoirs, painting, singing (once a member of the Mother Singers), and spending time with family. She loved animals, art, theater, and music, and cultivated these loves in her children. Throughout her life, Sally’s kind, sweet nature was apparent to all who met her. She was a good friend, a helpful neighbor, and beloved by many.
Sally is survived by four children, Cindy Madsen (Steve Hall) of Cheyenne, Tim Madsen of Phoenix, Arizona, Aimee Madsen of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Patrick Madsen (Megan Marshall) of Laramie; a grandson, Felix Marshall Madsen and two sisters, Catherine Hebert and Mary Ruckman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Madsen; son, Mark Madsen; parents, Thomas Ward and Agnes Hayes; and a half sister, Florence Hayes.
A memorial service will be held at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel Cheyenne in Cheyenne, on January 18th, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cheyenne Animal Shelter.
