Mary “Ruth” Breeden Cegelski passed away peacefully on February 26th, 2024 at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center with her family by her side.
Ruth was born January 16, 1939 in Bozeman Gallatin County Montana to John William “Brick” Breeden and Ruth (Platt) Breeden. Ruth grew up in Bozeman, Montana and graduated from Gallatin County High School in 1957. After high school she attended Montana State College, now known as Montana State University. She earned her degree in Health and Physical Education in 1962. While attending college, Ruth met the love of her life Robert James “Bobo” Cegelski of Green Bay, Wisconsin. They married in 1960. Together, they had two children, Valerie Lynn and Robert “Brick” Cegelski.
After college, Ruth and her family moved to Dillon, Montana where she taught health and physical education at Beaverhead County High School for one year. Ruth and her family then moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming where she taught physical education in the Laramie County School District #1 for 25 years.
Ruth was an active member of her sorority Chi-Omega. She was a member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church. She also enjoyed the luncheons with the retired educators association. Ruth also enjoyed playing golf with her family and friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband “Bobo”, her daughter Valerie Cegelski McLeod and brother Don Edward Breeden.
Ruth is survived by her son Robert “Brick” and wife Laura of Cheyenne, grandson Brick James and fiancée Anne of Sheridan, granddaughter Shelby Austin and Ryan Ricau of Cheyenne and their two daughters, Sage Valerie and Lena Rose, step granddaughter Niki (Nate Dale) of Gillette and their two boys, Kayson and Kylon, her brother William Platt (Phyllis Hess) Breeden of Bozeman, Montana, sister-in-law Linda Rowe (Don ) Breeden of Bozeman, Montana and nieces Jennifer (Mitch Kayser) and their children Spencer and Bailey of Bozeman, Montana, Samantha (Marc Parent) of Bozeman, Montana, Wendy (Cade Anderson) and their children Laney and Luke of Timnath, Colorado, Julie (Jey Ponti) and their children Olivia and Allison of Whitefish, Montana, Jenny Cegelski of Green Bay, Wisconsin, nephews Joe, Jesse, John and James Cegelski of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and son-in-law Kevin McLeod of Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Ruth has requested that donations be made in her name to Cathedral of Saint Mary’s, Cheyenne Animal Shelter, Meals on Wheels of Cheyenne or Montana State University.
Father Seth will do the funeral service on Friday March 8th at 1:00pm at Saint Mary’s Cathedral. The family would like to invite you to the Knights of Columbus to share a toast in Ruth’s name immediately following the service. Ruth will be buried in Bozeman, Montana at a later date.
