Chief Master Sergeant Ronald E. Mauritz of Cheyenne Wyoming died July 5, 2023. He was born May 9, 1931, to Elmer and Florence Mauritz in Kiron Iowa. Ron graduated from Kiron High School in 1949 and completed his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Maryland European Division in 1984. Ron married Lois Schurke and they had a daughter, Ardella, in 1951.
Ron enlisted in the Air Force right after high school and served in the Air Force for 24 years. His overseas assignments included England, Italy, and Viet Nam. His stateside assignments included Kentucky, Tennessee, Louisiana, Iowa, Michigan, Colorado, and Wyoming.
Ron received the Bronze Star while serving in Pleiku, Vietnam, in January 1969. His last assignment was at F.E. Warren AFB, Wyoming, where he was assigned to Base Supply in April 1970 and met his wife, Ellen. While at F.E. Warren he received his promotion to Chief Master Sergeant and in January 1972 he was assigned the position of Base Sergeant Major. In April 1973 Ron was assigned the position of Wing Sergeant Major--the number one enlisted person at F E Warren AFB, WY.
After retirement from the Air Force, Ron sold cars at Tyrrell Doyle Chevrolet Honda for 34 years and was selected as the “salesman of the century” by Tyrrell Doyle. He was an active member of Kiwanis, the Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce, the Shrine, the Air Force Association, and the F.E. Warren AFB Chapel. Ron held numerous committee positions in these activities including the President of the Chapel Council.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Florence Mauritz; one brother, Delmar Mauritz; one sister, Ruby Lindskoog.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen of 50 years; daughter, Ardella House; son-in-law, Neil House, of Sedalia CO; two grandchildren, Andrew and Marcella; stepchildren, Peggy (Jerry) Smith of Tyler, TX, Rex Christensen of Cheyenne, WY, Andrew and Dean Christensen of Orlando FL; two nieces and three nephews.
Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., July 11, 2023, in Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel with reception to follow the service. Interment and military honors will be held at Cheyenne National Cemetery following the reception.
