Roberto Seferino Martinez, 81, passed peacefully at the Davis Hospice Center on November 3, 2018 in Cheyenne, WY surrounded by all of his children and many of his grandchildren. He was born in Sena, New Mexico to Franciscita Montoya Martinez and Santiago Martinez on September 2, 1937.
Roberto spent his youth in Northern New Mexico with his siblings Ermilinda (Mondragon), Joe Martinez, Mary Jane (Barber), and Katie (Luna). They were a self-sustaining family performing ranch work (Sheppard) and cared for each other until the passing of their mother - when they all moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming in search of new opportunities. Roberto worked for many years as a laborer on missile sites, the refinery, and the Union Pacific Railroad, he also worked at Little America Resorts, and was self-employed in yard maintenance.
He met and married Maria Donilia (Lila) Gonzalez and they were soon blessed with Robert (Tracy), Debra (Oscar), Anthony, Edward, Adam (Sandra), David, and Rose (Ray).
He married a second time to Angelina S. Trujillo who helped raise his family. Roberto sustained an injury with the railroad and was home bound for many years. He recovered, retired from the railroad, and went on to further employment with the Laramie County School District where he continued to care for children until his retirement. He then moved to Belen, New Mexico with his third wife Sheri Eagles where he loved the weather and his garden. He eventually returned to Cheyenne to spend time with his family and lifelong friends.
Roberto loved fishing, hunting, dancing, and his many children and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Erlinda (Irma), brother Joe (Uncle Joe), first wife Maria (Lila), and second wife Angelina (Angie). He is survived by all his children, twenty-six grandchildren, and forty-five great grandchildren.
Services are under the direction of Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes. A Catholic Vigil will be held at Saint Joseph Catholic Church at 6:00 p.m. on Monday November 5th. The funeral Mass will be celebrated with Father Carl Gallinger at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church on Tuesday, November 6th at 10:30. Burial will take place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens followed by a reception at Saint Joseph's Parish Hall.
Roberto was a faithful servant of the Lord and to all he encountered. He will be forever remembered for his loving arms, big heart, huge hands, and perpetual smile.
