Roberta Jean Marquardt, age 88 passed away peacefully on July 18th, 2021, in Kimball, Nebraska. She was born May 8, 1933 in Kimball. Her parents were Leroy Johnson and Esther Coad Johnson. Roberta attended school in Kimball and Pine Bluffs and graduated from Pine Bluffs, High School, Pine Bluffs, WY in 1951.
She married John K. Marquardt on August 30, 1953, at the Pine Bluffs United Methodist Church. They would have been married 68 years.
She was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church and enjoyed participating in the UMW Evening Circle.
Roberta was a loving wife and mother who will be deeply missed. She enjoyed local history and was a board member of the Texas Trail Museum. She had many interesting stories that will be cherished by family. Roberta was an excellent baker and did beautiful china painting. She also enjoyed knitting and growing her plants and flowers. She was an excellent proofreader and speller (having won the 8th grade spelling bee!) and put these skills to good use working at the Pine Bluffs Post for 15 years. She also served as the secretary/treasurer of Marquardt Farms and Pinesair Inc., and worked at Dr. Nelson’s chiropractic office and the Medical Clinic in Pine Bluffs. Along with being a caring homemaker, Roberta was involved in her community; serving as a board member of the Texas Trail Museum and working at the Pine Bluffs Visitor Center for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Robert Johnson and her nephew, Barry Johnson.
Survivors include her husband, John K. Marquardt; Her daughters - Cheryl (Ron) Leef, Weston, Co; and Karen (Layne) Wilhelm, Fallon, NV; Her sons - Greg (Joleen) Marquardt, Pine Bluffs, Wy; Kevin (Kim) Marquardt, Cheyenne, Wy, her Grandchildren Cody Leef, Leslie Leef; Michael (Nikki) Wilhelm and Russell (Britnee) Wilhelm; James Marquardt, Jessica (Clint) Fornstrom, Jordan (Sarah) Marquardt; Courtney Budnick, Cassie (Tyler) Williams, and Kenzie (Travis) Meredith, and 8 great grandchildren.
In Lieu of flowers the family would greatly appreciate memorial donations to the Pine Bluffs Senior Center.
A celebration of life will take place Sept. 26th at the United Methodist church in Pine Bluffs, WY at 1:00 in the afternoon with some of Roberta’s favorite desserts served following the service.
