She lived in Cheyenne all of her life, having spent some time in Lander, WY and traveling to the Northwest after high school. Roberta, who went by “Bertie” to her family and friends, met William ‘Bill” Hinkley in 1977 and the two were married in 1978. Bertie was a loving and faithful wife and mother, who was always there for her family, whose faith and strength kept them strong through life’s hard times. Bertie was a devout Christian, had a wonderful sense of humor, and had a green thumb that made anything grow. She loved her gardens and houseplants, and her family was always helping her create new gardens at their home on the High Plains. There were always pets in her life and cherished most were her German Shepherds. In the last 25 years she always had one by her side. Bertie was very artistic, and in recent years had developed a passion for metal working and lapidary, which she shared with her husband. Roberta was a loving wife, mother, sister, and daughter. She made friends easily and had lasting friendships. Survivors include her husband, Bill, son Robert Hinkley, her brother Tom Bassett and his wife Jackie, and her brothers and sisters Ron and Dona Hinkley, Ray and Patty Hinkley, and nephews and nieces. Roberta was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Rose Bassett, her son David Hinkley, and her daughter Ivy Hinkley. Roberta’s smile and beautiful blue eyes made everyone happy, and she will be dearly missed. A graveside service and burial of her urn will be held on September 1st at 1pm at Lakeview Cemetery in Cheyenne. Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel is in charge of the cremation.
