She later attended Golden Prairie Elementary School, Pine Bluffs Jr. High, and was a 1949 graduate of Pine Bluffs High School. After graduation Roberta moved to Cheyenne, WY where she attended beauty school and met the love of her life, Lee Sumpter Gillespie, at the infamous Cheyenne, Wyoming Frontier Days. Lee was stationed at F.E. Warren Air Force Base and they were later married April 8, 1950 in Greeley, CO.

Later they moved to Minot, ND and then to Washington where she worked for the school system and as a telephone operator. From there they moved to California and then to Rifle, CO where they owned Lee’s Music and Camera together for 14 years. Roberta also worked for Grand River Medical Center for about10 years. After retirement, she and Lee stayed in Rifle for a few years while traveling before moving back to Cheyenne, WY in 2007.
Roberta was a loving, devoted, and supportive wife for over 69 years; a doting and caring mother to 4; and a loyal friend. She truly enjoyed the little things in life like hosting band rehearsals, baking bread, crocheting, chatting with friends, and playing cards with her grand-daughters.
