Robert D. (Bob) (Bobby) Giles, 78, departed this life surrounded by his family on September 7, 2017. He was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming on December 8, 1938 and resided in Cheyenne his entire life. He attended Cheyenne Central High School and the University of Wyoming. Bob was an accomplished bass guitarist. During the 1950’s and 1960’s, he was the bass player for the Fabulous Lebas and other local bands. He had a black-belt in karate and was an expert chess player. Bob was a member of the Wyoming Air National Guard.
Bobby was an expert on political matters and an avid watcher of CNN and MSNBC. You could ask him anything about current events and he could hold an in-depth conversation with you. He was a layman’s attorney as he interpreted the law.
He retired from Granite Canyon Quarry after many years of dedicated service. He also worked for Mountain Bell and the City of Cheyenne Sanitation Department.
Bob was a devoted father who truly loved and adored his children. He leaves to cherish in his memory nine children: Judy Carol Brown of Dallas, TX, Jean Latham-Dixon, Howard Evans (Debbie), Brandi Giles (Ray), Hattie Giles, Billie Giles all of Cheyenne WY; Gemini Janas of Durham, NC; Oria Giles of Eugene, OR; Tammy Giles-Kirsch of Lower Brule, SD. Three adopted children: Timothy Stundon of Dallas, TX; Isaac Oberholstzer, Gillette, WY and Haley Stundon, of Cheyenne, WY; two sisters: Sarah Giles-Kelly (Lonnie) Las Vegas, NV and Jetdean Giles-Martin (Ricardo) of Dallas TX; thirty-three grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by two sons, Michael Evans and Barry Lawson, his parents and grandparents.
A closed private gathering of family and close friends will be held in his remembrance. Cremation has taken place.
