The Rev. Robert (Bob) Chalstrom passed away in Cheyenne, WY after a brief illness on Sunday, August 18, at the age of 89, and has joined his beloved wife LaDonna in God’s eternal life through Jesus Christ. He led an active life through his Christian ministry to others, his devotion to his family and his service to the community. All who knew him appreciated his good nature and sense of humor. His children feel very fortunate to have had such a wonderful dad and friend in their lives, and also in the lives of their children and grandchildren. He will be forever loved and missed.
Bob was born in Portland, OR on July 4, 1930, to Al and Judy Chalstrom. He graduated from Augustana Lutheran College in Rock Island, IL with a Masters of Divinity and was ordained as a Lutheran minister in 1956. He began his ministry in Veradale, WA, and went on to pastor congregations in Richfield, MN and Arvada, CO before serving at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Cheyenne, WY for the last eighteen years of his full-time ministry. In his retirement Bob served as interim pastor to eight congregations extending from Albuquerque, NM to Casper, WY.
Bob was very integrated in the life of Cheyenne and its people, and drew great pleasure from his volunteer activities, including serving as chaplain for the Laramie County Sheriff Dept. and as a visiting pastor at the Cheyenne Detention Center. He also kept busy by serving on numerous committees and community boards, and also was a long standing member of the Cheyenne Lion’s Club.
Bob is survived by his children: Lynette Edner (Paul), Brian Chalstrom (Cindy), both of Cheyenne, and Lisa Stump (Gary ) of Clive, IA; eight grandchildren: Erik Edner, Adam Edner, Beth Chalstrom, Laura Chalstrom, Ben Chalstrom, Brian Stump (Cassie), Carl Stump (Kayla), and Caroline Stump; and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Andra Hamilton (Jerry) and his brother-in-law Tim Martin (Jerri), as well as many nieces and nephews and their families. Bob was preceded in death by his wife LaDonna, his parents Al and Judy, his daughter-in-law Cindy Chalstrom, and his sister Lois Brown.
Services will be Monday, 11:00 a.m., at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Cheyenne.
Private family burial will be in Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.
