Richard Marc Gannon

July 6, 1968 — February 21, 2025

Cheyenne

Richard M. Gannon, a resident of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, February 21. He was born July 6, 1968, in Rapid City, S.D. In 1972, he moved to Martin, SD, and was a graduate of Bennett County High School in 1986.

Richard was longtime advocate for, and supporter of, the disability service community in Wyoming. For more than 30 years, he supported countless individuals in obtaining employment and access to critical services. In the past two years he was associated with Wyoming Independent Living Center, where he not only worked directly with numerous consumers, he also recently worked on the group’s largest partnership with Vocational Rehabilitation: the Albany County School District and young adults with disabilities. He was a staunch advocate for person-centered planning and had recently spearheaded a leadership bootcamp for frontline managers, overseeing the many programs that serve people with disabilities.

Rich was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving as a public health specialist at F.E. Warren AFB, from 1988 to 1992.

Rich is survived by his beloved wife of 23 years, Dixie Gannon. He is also survived by his stepson Jared Mace (Sarah) of Wellington, CO; his brothers Mike (Kelley) of Ashland, VA; Tim (Jackie) of Arlington, VA; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Leo and Gloria Gannon, his sister Nancy Halter, and his stepson Rodney Mace.
