On Sunday, 16 August 2015, the Rev. Ernest Lee Stevens, Jr., age 89, passed from his earthly life into the arms of his Blessed Savior. “Fr. Lee” was born 21 December 1925, in Contoocook, New Hampshire.
He graduated from the University of New Hampshire and later attended the Episcopal Theological School in Cambridge, MA. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1960.
He served parishes in Michigan and Arizona before returning to active Army service in 1960 as a Chaplain. As a Chaplain, he served in Vietnam, Korea, and twice in Germany. Since his retirement from the military in 1977, he had served parishes in AZ doing supply work.
Fr. Lee was married to Dorothy Catlin in Superior, AZ on 26 August 1989. In addition to his wife, he is survived by 4 children from a previous marriage: Kathleen Boyer, Carl Timothy Stevens, Kevin Lee Stevens, Geoffrey Ian Stevens. He is also pre-deceased by 2 children: Wanda Lee Stevens and Mark Alexander Stevens. He also leaves 11 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
After Fr. Lee and Dorothy moved to Cheyenne in 2007, he served the local parishes of St. Mark’s and St. Christopher’s Episcopal Churches for several years.
A viewing will take place at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel, 1900 E. 19th St., Cheyenne, WY on Thursday, 20 August 2015 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm with family members in attendance.
A funeral Eucharist will be celebrated at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church Friday, 21 August 2015 at 1:00 pm with a reception following in the parish hall. A military honor guard will also be in attendance.
Burial will take place in Contoocook Cemetery in Contoocook, NH at a later date.
Services are under the direction of Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel.
