Raymond Martin Steege, 87, passed away August 28, 2019. He was born July 23, 1932 in Burns, WY to Arthur Martin Steege and Marie Whitenack Steege.
Raymond graduated from Burns High School in 1950. After serving in the Army, he returned to Cheyenne where he met his wife of 63 years, Marjorie Palmer. They were married June 9, 1956.
Raymond graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1959 with a BS degree in Mathematics. He started his master’s degree by attending Washington State University on a National Science Foundation Grant for two summers. He completed his master’s degree at the University of Northern Colorado in 1963 and went on to complete 50 additional hours beyond his degree. Raymond taught math at East High School in Cheyenne for 10 years. He taught math for 25 years at L.C.C.C. where he was an original faculty member.
After retiring from L.C.C.C., Raymond and fellow math professor, Kerry Bailey, co-authored, “Schaum’s Outlines, Intermediate Algebra” which was published by McGraw Hill. A third edition was published in 2018.
He was a member of the Wyoming Education Association, National Education Association, Association of Mathematics Teachers in Two-year Colleges, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and Phi Delta Kappa.
He loved spending time with his children, traveling in his motor home, meeting new friends and spending winters in Arizona.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Marjorie; son Ronald R Steege (Laura), daughter Terri Bell, son Dan A Steege (Christy), eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and sister Mary Lou Buzzard (Duane) of Alpena, AR.
