Raymond E. Carlson, 96, of Cheyenne, WY, passed away on June 22, 2019 in Ft. Collins, CO. He was born on April 21 ,1923 in Ceresco, Nebraska to Ivar and Selma Carlson. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1943 and served on PT-62 in the South Pacific during WWII. He married Joyce Wieting on February 16, 1947. Ray worked for Omaha Steel Works in Omaha, Nebraska and moved to Cheyenne in 1958 to establish Great Plains Steel, a subsidiary of Omaha Steel Works. In 1963, Ray started his own business, Tri-State Steel, a steel fabrication facility. In 1985, Ray became the deputy Land Commissioner for the state of Wyoming. He and Joyce were members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Cheyenne. Ray loved sports and was a star athlete in basketball and baseball in high school. He was a big fan of University of Wyoming football and basketball and loved the Colorado Rockies. He was intensely involved with his extended family and friends with reunions, golf trips, and float trips. He survived by a daughter; Susan (Brent) Fabian, of Cheyenne, two sons; Richard and Paul (Phyllis) Carlson, all of Cheyenne, three grandchildren; Matt (Annie) Fabian of Washington, D.C., David (Shannon) Fabian of Ft. Collins, CO., and Gretchen Carlson of Cheyenne, and three great-grandchildren; Jane Fabian of Washington D. C., and Isabelle and Grayson Fabian of Ft. Collins. CO. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Joyce, a brother and two sisters. A memorial service will be held on Friday June 28th, at 1PM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
