Ray L. Blomenkamp

Ray Blomenkamp, 86, of Gering, Nebraska, passed at Cheyenne VA Hospital on October 27, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on 27th Day of June 1935, in Sutherland, NE to Fredrick & Wilma (Shaw) Blomenkamp.
He was married to Dortha Hagan on December 30, 1956. They lived near Madrid Nebraska in a sod house. They both worked in Ogallala. Ray was called to active military service. his basic training was in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, then he was stationed at Fairchild Air Force base as a medic. After his service they returned to Nebraska
He was a true entrepreneur. His hobbies were many. He became a photographer and worked with electronics. These two passions led him to become a professional photographer for 30 years. During this same time, he was a Radio Shack dealer filling this void needed in his local community in Ogallala. He also was a leader in starting the first 1-hour photo lab. After moving to Gering, he started a second career, he became a Dish Network Dealer until his final retirement. When he was not working you could find him gardening, doing lawn work as well as woodworking or find him at a local fishing hole. From Lake McConaughey to a sand pit.
He is survived by his wife, Dortha; sons, Neal (Lora) Blomenkamp and Tim (Shannon) Bolmenkamp; daughter Julie (Nathan) Bevard; 8 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brother, Allen (Carrol) Blomenkamp and sister, Ione Shaw.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Fredrick and Wilma Blomenkamp and sister, Ilene Blomenkamp
