Ralph C. Shauger, Jr., 83, of Cheyenne, died August 27th at the VA Medical Center.
He was born April 12, 1931 in Paterson, New Jersey, to Ralph C. and Janet Shauger, Sr. Ralph attended school in New Jersey graduating from high school before joining the U.S. Navy. After his discharge he completed his schooling before joining the U.S. Air Force in the Pilot program. Ralph retired as a Captain after 20 years of service.
Ralph married his wife June on December 10, 1954 in Minnesota, settling in Cheyenne in 1970. Ralph was a member of the American Legion Post #6 where he served with the Honor Guard faithfully for many years. He also belonged to the Elks Lodge; VFW Post #1881; and the Kiwanis Club, where he never missed helping with a pancake breakfast. He was very active in Cheyenne Frontier Days serving as the judge for the chuckwagon races and the wagon doctor for the Old West Museum.
Survivors include three daughters, Linda (Danny) Griego of Cheyenne; Leslie (Dan) Grossnickle of Avon, Indiana; and Janet Stephens of Cheyenne; six grandchildren, Matthew and Michael Grossnickle; Ryan, Rachael and Tyler Shauger; and Krystal Stephens.
He was preceded in death by his wife June, his parents, and a son, Lee Shauger.
There will be an Honor’s Ceremony at the American Legion Post #6 on Monday, September 1st at 10:00 a.m.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel.
Donations may be made to the American Legion Honor Guard #6.
