Presel Marcella (Martinez) Romero, of Cheyenne, passed away at Davis Hospice Center on August 27, 2015.
She was born December 23, 1934 in LeDoux, New Mexico to Abelino and Feloniz (Vigil) Martinez.
Presel received her schooling in New Mexico, attending both public and parochial schools. She graduated from St. Gertrude's (Parochial) High School. She lived in Greeley, Colorado; Cheyenne, Wyoming; and Albuquerque, New Mexico working as a waitress in her earlier years. She worked in many historical restaurants in Cheyenne such as the Albany Café, the Mayflower Café, Mom's Café, and Armando's.
She married the love of her life, Macario Juan "Max" Romero, on November 16, 1973 at St. Gertrude's Chapel in Mora, N.M. and returned to Cheyenne, Wyoming where she lived most of her life as a homemaker. She worked as a Bilingual Tutor for Hebard Elementary for a couple of years.
Presel was a loving, spiritual, prayerful, and humble woman. She was a dedicated and loyal wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Family was very important to Presel; she sang sweet songs of love to her children and granchildren, and taught all of them the power of prayer and the importance of education. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and taught catechism for many years. She also was an active volunteer for her children's schools, Headstart, Catholic Youth Organization, the True-Ness Clique Youth Organization, and sponsor of the Wyoming Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
Presel was a wonderful cook, enjoyed sewing, going on walks, having picnics and playing various games.
Some of her favorites were Yahtzee, Scrabble, Parcheesi, Double Solitaire, Crazy Eights, and Ms. Pac-Man Video Game. She also enjoyed watching movies and listening to music. She especially enjoyed watching Elvis Presley movies and listening to his music. She was also an enthusiastic Denver Broncos fan, and her favorite Sunday restaurant was the Diamond Horseshoe Café.
Presel is survived by her children, a son, John Benedict Romero-Martinez; two daughters, Pamela Joan Martinez-Trujillo (Palmer) and Bernadette Elena Romero-De La Cruz (Mauricio) all of Cheyenne; four grandchildren, Christina Renée Cooley of Eagle Nest, N.M., Teresa Guadalupe Romero-De La Cruz, Gabriela Presel De La Cruz and Marc-Anthony Mauricio De La Cruz, all of Cheyenne; step-grandson, Salvino Paul Trujillo, and a step-great-granddaughter, McKenzie Raye Trujillo both of Cheyenne; a brother, Ruben Martinez of Clayton, New Mexico and a sister, Beatrice Trujillo of Santa Fe, New Mexico; an aunt, Perfetita Garcia of Greeley, Colorado; a brother-in-law, Adelaido (Priscilla) Romero of Las Vegas, New Mexico, and sisters-in-law, Teodorita Serna of LeDoux, New Mexico, Rosalia Romero of Cheyenne, Silvia Baca of Albuquerque, New Mexico and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Macario Juan “Max” Romero, five brothers, Leo, Feliciano, Abelino, Victerbo and Johnny Martinez; four sisters, Beatrice Martinez, Sencionita Lucier, Martina D. Lucero and Consuelo Montaño and many family members.
Vigil for the Deceased, Rosary, and DVD Presentation will be Tuesday, 6:00 p.m., Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel.
Funeral Liturgy will be Wednesday, 10:00 a.m., St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Carl Gallinger as celebrant.
Pallbearers are Rudy Lucero, Jr., Roger Lucero, Nelson Trujillo, Jr., Martín Trujillo, John B. Romero-Martinez and William Lucier, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Trujillo and Alfonso Garcia.
Cremation will take place.
Interment of her urn will be Saturday in Olivet Cemetery.
