On January 14, 2024, Philip J Griggs, 78, of Cheyenne, lost his fight with cancer at his home with his wife, Kay of 56 years and children by his side.
Born in Kewanee, Illinois on August 9, 1945, Philip was the youngest son of the late Theodore and Dorothy Griggs. Philip lived in Decatur, Illinois until 1963 when he joined the the military. He retired from the United States Air Force as a Veteran of the Vietnam war having served 21 years as an Aircraft Electrician and a Master Aircraft Electrician Instructor. Upon retirement Philip and his family moved to St. Charles Missouri where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Columbia College.
Philip and Kay moved to Cheyenne, WY in 2000. He worked at the Cheyenne Airport Golf Course for 16 years in the maintenance department. Forever a public servant Philip also served on the Wyoming Public Transit Advisory Board from 2014 – 2017 and the Wyoming Planning Commission from 2015 – 2023 where he served as the board president until 2023. In 2021 he was named Planning Commissioner of the Year.
Philip was a wonderful husband and father and devoted friend. He loved playing golf, having started the game at 18. He enjoyed meeting his friends Wednesday mornings for coffee and loved to monitor the weather for his family, especially his children who lived out of state. Philip was always quick with a joke and a smile. He loved to share past stories with his family and friends, especially those regarding his military career.
Philip is survived by his wife, Kay Griggs, his children, Steven Griggs and Shannon Wild, his two grandchildren as well as his brothers Hayden and JD Griggs.
Philip is preceded in death by his father, mother, and his sister, Gretchen Griggs.

Interment for Philip will take place at 1:00 pm on February 5, 2024, located at the Cheyenne National Cemetery, 8611 Hildreth Rd, Cheyenne, WY 82009. There will be a reception immediately to follow the burial at 5317 Boulder Ct in Cheyenne from 2:00pm to 5:00pm.
