Orlee Mae Palmer, 90, of Cheyenne, died Saturday, October 25, 2014 in Greeley, Colorado.
She was born on a sheep ranch in northern Laramie County to Henry “Hans” and Clara L. Hanson on October 31, 1923. She graduated from Chugwater High School in 1941. During WWII she worked at the Modification Center installing various components on B17’s, B24’s and B26’s. After WWII she attended the University of Wyoming and graduated with a teaching certificate. She worked as a teacher in country schools, grades one through eight. She taught at Silver Crown, Horse Creek, New Haven, Bear Mountain and Meriden. She especially liked teaching phonics.
On December 6, 1952, she married Robert I. Palmer. After marriage she tutored at home, teaching piano and language skills.
Survivors include her husband Robert; a daughter, Melanie (Al) Tibbitts; two sons, Robert I. (Sandy) Palmer, Jr.; and H. August (Patty) Palmer; granddaughter, Monica (Eric) Ramirez; great grandchildren, Joelene, Natalee and Coleton; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Mildred Cashman, Cordelia Miskimins; Sina Lillian Cashman, Viola Tipton, Henrietta Hanson and niece Pamela Miskimins.
Services will be held at First Baptist Church, 1800 E. Pershing Blvd, Cheyenne, on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens under the direction of Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel. Interment of her ashes will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome to be made to the Shriner’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.
