Nancy Marie Clemens

May 6, 1946 — August 29, 2023

Nancy Marie Clemens, 77, of Cheyenne, passed away August 29, 2023 at Davis Hospice Center in Cheyenne surrounded by loved ones. Nancy was born May 6, 1946 in Dimmitt, Texas to Marvin and Marie (Braunschweig) Spencer. They moved to Wyoming in the late 1940’s. The family then moved to Laramie where Nancy spent all of her school years and graduated from Laramie High School. She married Lloyd Rote in Laramie and they moved to Cheyenne in 1966. They had three children, Jeffrey (Lori) Rote and Trudi (Robert) Coe both of North Platte, Nebraska, and Ann Marie Rote of Cheyenne. Lloyd and Nancy later divorced and she married Steve Clemens in September, 1989.
Nancy worked at Mountain Bell for a brief period and then opened a fabric shop, which was a branch of her mother’s fabric store (Spencer’s Quilt Shop of Laramie). After closing the fabric shop, Nancy became a self-employed house cleaner and continued that service for many years. Nancy loved to paint, quilt and make crafts. She was always busy working on a project. The word “relax” was not in her vocabulary. She loved to go four-wheeling and, for over 25 years, was an avid walker at Lions Park, walking at least once a day and often twice a day, chalking up many miles at a time. If you described her to someone as “that thin lady that walks the park”, chances are the individual would know who you were talking about. She made many friends during her walks.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Steve, her three children, Jeff, Trudi and Ann, her five grandchildren, Zachary and Jerel Rote, Justin James, Jordan and William Coe, sister, Bonnie Prahl of Cheyenne and two nephews, R. Spencer (Joy) Prahl of Golden, Colorado and Paul R. (Diane) Prahl of Cheyenne. Also her two dogs, Harley and Bailey whom she thought the world of and would be upset if they were not mentioned. She was preceded in death by her father, Marvin Spencer, her mother, Marie Bartley, and her stepfather, Robert Bartley of Laramie.
The family would like to thank the Davis Hospice Center and the nurses that were so compassionate and caring. Nancy made arrangements to be cremated and have her ashes buried with her father in Laramie, Wyoming. A memorial service to honor Nancy’s life will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church, 712 Storey Boulevard, Cheyenne. A reception at the church for family and friends will follow the service.
She was dearly loved and is already sorely missed. Remember her determination, stamina and beautiful smile.
