Nallie Hardy Jr., 74, of Cheyenne passed away peacefully on January 6, 2023, at Davis Hospice Center surrounded by his loving family. Nal was born in Meridian, Mississippi on July 28,1948 to Mary and Nallie Hardy Sr. He graduated from Clarkdale High School in 1968. He joined the United States Air Force and served at Da Nang Air Base during the Vietnam War. As an air freight specialist, he was assigned to the 15th Aerial Port Squadron, a unit of the Military Airlift Command which provides global airlift for U.S. Military forces. He previously served at F.E. Warren AFB, in Cheyenne, where he met the love of his life; the former Susan A. Hartigan, whom he married in 1970.
Nal retired from the Union Pacific Railroad, where he worked for 39 years. He was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father and pop-pop. He loved coaching baseball and was the head coach of the local junior league baseball team, the Pirates, for many years. In later years, he took on the role as assistant coach to his son’s team, the Rockies. Nal was his children and grandchildren’s biggest fan in everything they did. He was always seen at events watching, cheering and sometimes… yelling. He was known to be “thrown” out of a few games. He also had a love/hate relationship with working on vehicles. Nal also enjoyed bowling and was on several leagues. His favorite pastime was mowing his lawn, sitting on the porch swing, listening to music and being the neighborhood watch.
He is survived by his daughter, Tracy Christensen (Scott); son, Shane Hardy (Hillary); grandkids, Drew Nielsen, Aleczander, Alyvia, Athaniel Hardy, James Christensen, Nicki Montoya (Adrian); great-grandson, Braxton Montoya; brothers Jimmy Wayne “J.W.” Hardy (Ruth), Robert Earl Hardy (Sheryl) and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 51 years Susie Hardy, brothers; James Lewis Hardy, Arnold O’Neil Hardy and Tommie Lee Hardy.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 21 at 10 a.m. at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes. A reception will follow at 2 Doors Down located at 118 E. 17th St., in Cheyenne.
