Myra N. Downare

December 6, 1940 — May 10, 2017

Myra Neola Downare, 76, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, died Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center with her husband, children, and several grandchildren by her side. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 15, 2017 at the Frontier School of the Bible Chapel in LaGrange, Wyoming. Interment will follow at LaGrange Cemetery. A memorial has been established in her name with The Gideons, International. Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel will oversee arrangements.
Myra was born in Wheatland, Wyoming on December 6, 1940 to Milton and Bertha Nicks, the youngest of five siblings. Her older brothers and sisters were Barbara Lee, Eugene, Pat and Carlene. Her father died when she was very young and she fondly recalled having later run up to William Cook on the sidewalk and telling him he should be her new daddy. William did marry Bertha and the family soon grew. Mickey, Charlie, Karen and Neil were born to the couple.
After a family move to Colorado as a young teenager, Myra met and married Timothy S. Downare of Englewood on January 28, 1956. The couple enjoyed raising their four children: Christy, Cathy, Tim and Kimberly in Denver, Colorado, the mountains of Littleton, Colorado and LaGrange, Wyoming.
Myra is remembered fondly for her dedication to and love of her Savior, Jesus Christ. She shared Him with anyone who would listen unashamedly and often. To top off the fact that she managed to be wife, mom, and grandmother EXTRAORDINAIRE, she was dedicated to many ministries throughout her walk with Jesus, some of which included a puppet ministry, children’s church and AWANA Cubbies at LaGrange Bible Church. At Frontier School of the Bible, she taught Christian Women’s Practices for a time and also had many young women look up to her leadership and godly example when she was the Dean of Women.
She also found time to work in the LaGrange community. She loved her job at the LaGrange Elementary School as a teacher’s aide, where she used her creative and artistic gifts and talents. She was also able to support the high school by volunteering as the cheerleading sponsor for a time. (And who could forget how loud she could yell or whistle?)
Myra’s favorite time of year started at Halloween when the first Christmas tree would be lit up in the front window for all the trick-or-treaters to see. When the children would ask why she had a Christmas tree on Halloween, she knew she had the perfect opportunity to tell them about Jesus coming as a precious baby because He loved them so much!
Myra is survived by her husband, Tim Downare, of Cheyenne, Wyoming; her children, Christy (Mark) Marshall of LaGrange, Wyoming, Cathy (Dan) Johnson of Morrill, Nebraska, Tim (Elizabeth) Downare of Buffalo, Wyoming, and Kimberly Koester of Cheyenne, Wyoming; her grandchildren Kyle (Kristin) Marshall, Kenny (Christina) Marshall, Brandon Marshall, Missy (Dave) Schroeder, Deanna (David) Norby, T.J. (Michaela) Downare, and Alicia, Sydney and Cassie Downare, Danielle (Travis) Woodward, and Courtney and Mariah Koester; and her fifteen beautiful great-grandchildren.
