Merton E. Ward, 85, of Cheyenne, died Friday, June 15, 2018 at his home.
He was born September 9, 1932 in Curlew, Iowa to Joel and Pearl Ward. After a career in the Air Force he retired as a Chief Master Sergeant supervising the maintenance and storage of special weapons. He worked as a radio operator communicating by international Morris Code and then retrained into the Special Weapons Career Field. Merton spent duty tours in Japan. He also spent tours in Okinawa, Germany and several assignments in the States. Following his Military career, Mr. Ward worked briefly for the Post Office and then as a Quality Assurance Inspector at American Wyott Corporation in Cheyenne.
He married Hisae Oishi at the American Embassy, on October 25, 1954 in Tokyo, Japan.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years.
Survivors include a brother, Duane (Patricia) Ward from Downey, California; a sister, Gwen (Bill) Cochran of Fostoria, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews both here and in Japan.
Mr. Ward has requested cremation and there will be no services held. Burial will take place at Beth El Cemetery, beside his wife.
