Mattek Steven Castaneda , born March 17, 2015, passed away peacefully in the arms of his Mom & Dad on Sunday, August 9, 2015.
Mattek is the son of Daniel and Darcy Castaneda. In his four and a half months on Earth, he touched many lives and brightened our days with his smile, big brown eyes, reddish-blonde hair, and love for his musical mobile. Mattek loved snuggling and being held by his Mom, Dad, and family, and having his head rubbed while being smothered in kisses. Mattek adored the many stories read to him as well as the uplifting music they would sing and play for him. Danny and Darcy feel so blessed that they were able to spend every day next to their son. Mattek loved seeing his cousins via FaceTime, studying their sweet faces and listening closely to their vibrant voices. He often gave them his signature “look” with furrowed eyebrows.
Mattek Steven is named after his grandfather, Steven Castaneda and one of Danny’s cherished and fallen Marine brothers, Lance Corporal Johnny J. Mattek, Jr. Mattek Steven Castaneda is forever our little hero and we will always remain “Mattek Strong”.
He is survived by his parents; his paternal family: grandparents, Steve and Kim Castaneda, great-grandparents, Daniel and Francis Castaneda, Aunt Cristina and Uncle David Donovan, Uncle John Castaneda, cousins, Gabriella Castaneda, and Paisley and Grace Donovan; his maternal family: grandparents, Lynn Sherman, and Jeff and Debbie Sherman, great-grandparents, Richard and Sophie Jacoby, and Leo and Sharon Pando, Aunt Abby Sherman, and cousin Adalyn Munoz.
Mass of the Angels will be Thursday, 12:00 p.m., at St. Mary’s Cathedral.
Interment will be in Olivet Cemetery.
The Castaneda family invites all to come share their love, support, and celebrate Mattek’s life.
